Text for Cantata 192
Nun danket alle Gott

Original German Text

English Translation

1. CHOR

Nun danket alle Gott
mit Herzen, Mund und Händen,
der große Dinge tut
an uns und allen Enden,
der uns von Mutterleib
und Kindesbeinen an
unzählig viel zugut
und noch jetzund getan.

Now all thank God
with heart, mouth and hands,
who does great things
for us and to all ends,
who for us, while in the mother's womb
and from childhood on,
caused immeasurably great benefit
and does so even now.

2. ARIA (Sopran, Baß)

Der ewig reiche Gott
woll uns bei unserm Leben
ein immer fröhlich Herz
und edlen Frieden geben
und uns in seiner Gnad
erhalten fort und fort
und uns aus aller Not
erlösen hier und dort.

The eternally bountiful God
willingly grants us, along with our life,
an ever happy heart
and noble peace
and preserves us in his grace,
onward and onward
and delivers us from all distress
while here or underway.

3. CHOR

Lob, Ehr und Preis sei Gott,
dem Vater und dem Sohne
und dem, der beiden gleich
im hohen Himmelsthrone,
dem dreieinigen Gott,
als der ursprünglich war
und ist und bleiben wird
jetzund und immerdar.

Glory, honor and praise be to God,
to the Father and to the Son
and to the one, equal to them both
upon the high throne of heaven,
to the triune God,
as it was in the beginning
and is and will remain
now and evermore.
