Bach Memorabilia

Memo-1676

Type:

Bach Sculpture

Title:

SDG Signature

Description:

Material: Clay
The Meaning of SDG:
One of my hobbies is playing the piano, specifically, classical music. J.S. Bach placed the inscription SDG on many of his compositions, which stands for "Soli Deo Gloria". This is taken from Romans 16:27 and Jude 25, and translates to "To the only God's glory". He believed that all works, sacred or secular, should be created to the glory of God.
I love the idea of placing such an inscription on a work of art, and have started incorporating this inscription - SDG - to my artworks. You'll see it either etched into a sculpture or written onto a drawing. This inscription perfectly illustrates my reasons for creating artwork.

Artist Statement:
There is a certain type of elegance to nature, and to all living things. It's almost possible to find a meaning to existence, to find God himself, through the things that He has created. Thus my work is almost like an homage, a recreation of the things that I find to be beautiful in this world.
