Johann Urban (Thomaskantor)

Johann Urban [Johannes Steffani De Orba], was most probaly the first Thomaskantor, serving in this post from 1435 to 1439; 1430 Kanonikus, 1436 to 1466 as "Johannes Cantor". He was often represented as Thomasherr, "man of confidence", as the documents of the monastery testify. In a document from the 1439, which concerns the Georgenhospital (George hospital), the Kantor Johann Urban is mentioned. The Kantorat of Johann Urban from 1443 to 1444 was interrupted by the Kantorat of his monastery brother, Thomas Ranstete.
