Elisabeth von Senitz (Poet)

Born: 1629 - Rankau, Silesia, Germany
Died: 1679

The German poet, Elizabeth von Senitz, was born of Silesian nobility, in the genealogy of her family as a "scholarly women's room". She wrote hymns and poems. Early orphaned, she was brough to Brieg and Oels. In Oels she met the Duke of Hofarzt, Sylvius Nimrod, and the poet and mystic John Scheffler (Angelus Silesius). Schenkte an adventurer wrote highly of their love, altoght it was not accepted by the church, as representedd by the Pastor Ananias Weber, due to the fact that her bridegroom was married. She was a member of Nuremberg literary society, the Pegnesischer Blumenorden, which was managed by Sigismund von Birken, and played a significant role in the development of women's writing.
