Lev Revutsky (Composer, Arranger)

Born: February 20, 1889 - lrshavetz, near Poltava, Ukraine
Died: March 31, 1977 - Kiev, Ukraine

The Ukrainian composer, teacher and scientist, Lev(ko Mikolaievich) Revutsky [Revuzky], went to Kiev and studied with R. Gliere (composition) and N. Lysenko (piano) at the Conservatory, graduating in 1916. He received PhD in musicology in 1941.

From 1924 to 1941 Lev Revutsky taught at the Musico-Dramatic Institute. He was teacher of music and drama "Lysenko" institute (since 1924) and Kiev conservatory (since 1934; since 1935 - professor). From 1941 to 1944 he was chief of department of the Tashkent Conservatory, and from 1944 to 1948 chairman of Ukrainian Composer's Union. In 1944 he became national artist of USSR, and in 1957 was elected to the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences.

Lev Revutsky composed music for the theatre, films, and radio; 2 piano concertos (1914, 1934); 2 symphonies (1916-1921; 1926-1927); choral pieces. Creative heritage of Revutsky had become a worthy continuation of the great work of his famous predecessors such as Lysenko, Stetsenko, Leontovych, Stepovyj.
