Rudolf Petzold (Composer)

Born: July 17, 1908 - Liverpool, England
Died: November 17, 1991 - Michaelshoven, Germany

The German composer and teacher, Rudolf Petzold, was born in England to a German father and English mother. From 1930 to 1933 he was a pupil of Jamach at the Cologne Hochschule für Musik, where he taught in 1937-1938. After teaching at the Frankfurt am Main Hochschule für Musik in 1941-1942, he again taught at the Cologne Hochschule für Musik from 1946 to 1970, and was also its deputy director from 1960 to 1969.

Works

Orchestral:
3 symphonies (1942, 1953, 1956); Concerto for Violin and Strings (1960).
Chamber:
4 string quartets (1932, 1948, 1955, 1972); Piano Trio (1961); Cello Sonata (1964); Sonata for Solo Violin (1965); Piano Sonata (1967); Violin Sonata (1969).
Vocal:
Sacred cantatas (including Werfel Cantata, Te Deum, Komm, Heilger`Geist, Du, schöpferisch); choruses.
