Per Günther (Composer)

Born: 1933 - Denmark

Per Günther is a Danish composer, church musician, organist and choral conductor.

Per Günther moved to Esbjerg (Denmark) on April 1, 1962 and began as organist in Treenighedskirken (The Trinity Church). In 1964, he founded the choir Treenighedskirkens Drengekor. During his 25 year tenure as the choir's director the choir established itself firmly as a choir with high standards and a repertoire that went far beyond Danish psalmody and hymns. It was Günther who introduced the English Service of Nine Readings and Carols to Denmark for example. On March 31, 2002, he was hounered with Her Majesty Queen Margrethe's Order of Merit for his service.

Per Günther composed mostly for organ, including 24 Chorale Fantasias over Danish Hymn Melodies, and other collections of organ fantasias, organ chorales, Psalms, Magnificat, and more.
