Anton Bilotti (Composer, Arranger)

Born: January 17, 1906 - New York City, NY, USA
Died: November 12, 1963 - New York City, NY, USA

The American pianist and composer, Anton Bilotti, was the son of Italian immigrants. He developed an exceptional talent for the piano as a child and was sent to study at the Naples Conservatory of Music. He was there from 1915 to 1921 and later studied in Paris with Busoni, Ravel, and de Pachmann.

Anton Bilotti made his piano debut at Carnegie Hall in 1921 and later performed with all the leading orchestras throughout the USA and Europe.

Besides other piano compositions, Anton Bilotti wrote a symphony, a violin concerto, a poem for saxophone and orchestra, and quintet for piano and strings, and a suite for string quartet. His compostions include: Spanish Dance, Concerto for Piano, and Orchestra and Puck Dance. Of his performances of his piano concerto, the New York Times wrote: "Mr. Bilotti performed his brilliant piano part with ample virtuosity and the composers authority. His concerto is in four movements, and is not merely a piece for solo instrument with orchestral accompaniment, but genuinely a symphonic composition." His pieces are well written, and he sustains a South American mood throughout. Each compostion offers its own personality. They are imaginative, and very expressive. Techically suited to late intermediate and advanced students, they are most appealing to teen-age groups. The works present excellent material for the agogical and poetic study needed for sensitivity in performance. He published the children's story Albert the Weasel.
