Belinda Yates (Soprano)

Born: England

The English soprano, Belinda Yates, studied at the Royal College of Music.

Since finishing her studies Belinda Yates has combined her career working as a soloist, in recital, opera and with chamber choir. She was awarded a Young Artist Platform BBC recital and has given concerts abroad for the British Council. She appears as soloist on a number of classical CD's with music ranging from Purcell to Francis Poulenc.

Belinda Yates' great love is the magic of direct communication with an audience in recital, and her song repertoire spans Baroque to 20th century singing. She performs regularly with the accompanist Heather Chamberlain. In addition to recital work they have performed for the global online launch of the ‘Shakespeare Collection’ and the 400th Anniversary celebration of the poet Edmund Waller. 2008 marked the 400th Anniversary year of the poet John Milton. Belinda performed songs set to his texts in the celebratory event at Kings Place, London. This has led to an ongoing collaboration with the actor Lance Pierson giving uniquely crafted performances of words and music as the trio ‘In Voice And Verse’.

As well as her own concert work Belinda Yates has sung with many professional choral groups including The King’s Consort, The Finzi Singers and The Monteverdi Choir. With the latter, she took part in the momentous Bach Cantata Pilgrimage project where they performed, throughout Europe, every existing Bach cantata between Christmas 1999 & Christmas 2000. In 2004 she joined The Monteverdi Choir when they undertook a 4 week Spanish Pilgrimage across northern Spain to Santiago de Compostela marking their 40th anniversary.

Belinda Yates' opera experience includes a memorable production in Paris in 2003 of The Trojans by Berlioz conducted by Sir John Eliot Gardiner. In 2004 Belinda toured the Far East with Purcell's opera Dido and Aeneas and in 2007 she sang in Chabrier’s comic opera L’Etoile again in Paris. In June 2009 she performed in Georges Bizet’s Carmen at the Opera Comique, Paris & in the Alhambra, Granada.

2011 saw Belinda Yates performing 74 concerts around the UK with her Trio ‘In Voice & Verse’ celebrating the 400th Anniversary of the King James Bible, receiving a 5 Star review at the Edinburgh Fringe. She also sang in Carmen in Luxembourg conducted by Evelino Pido, Le Freyschutz in Paris & concert tours of Spain & Germany with the London Symphony Orchestra and Monteverdi Choir. In 2012 and 2013 her trio presented 2 new shows around the UK celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the Book of Common Prayer. She sang with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra in the Canary Isles, and toured the USA with the Monteverdi Choir & orchestra. 2014 heralds the Trio's UK tour of their new Shakespeare show. Venues include London's Leicester Square Theatre, Stratford Poetry Festival and Edinburgh Fringe. She also has forthcoming performances abroad in 2014 with the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig.
