Delia Woolford (Contralto)

Born: England

The English contralto, Delia Woolford, studied from 1949 to 1953 at the Royal College of Music in London and acquired in 1951 her diploma as a piano teacher, and in 1953 as a singer.

After her studies Delia Woolford began a very successful career as an oratorio and Lieder singer, who gained acknowledgement in the music centres in her England homeland as well as all over Europe. For example, she sang over many years at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) for Piet van Egmond, appeared in the English broadcast BBC and in Fersehsendungen and was characterised in particular as an interpreter of the French and the English song.

Since 1975 Delia Woolford was a singing teacher. She is married with Eric Waddington.

Recordings: Oiseau Lyre (Venus and Adonis by John Blow, Matthäus-Passion by J.S. Bach under Piet van Egmond).
