Ronald Woan (Choral Conductor)

Born: 1919 - Walton, Liverpool, England

The English choral conductor, Ronald Woan, was educated at the Liverpool Institute. As a boy he sang in Liverpool Cathedral Choir from the age of 11.

After his studies, Roland Woan took over as the Director of Music at Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral in 1948 (incuding direction of the Liverpool Cathedral Choir). At the same time, he began weekday work as a music teacher in Crosby schools until his retirement in 1982. In 1978, he disbanded the Liverpool Cathedral Singers, a group drawn from the general public who were sometimes assisted by members of the Liverpool Cathedral Choir for larger works, often in conjunction with the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. He retired from his post at the Cathedral and the Liverpool Cathedral Choir in 1982.
