Jayne Whitaker (Soprano)

Born: Guernsey, Channel Islands, England

The English soprano and Music teacher, Jayne Whitaker (McNeillis), studied at Grammar School Guernsey in Guernsey, Channel Islands (1976-1982). She attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and has a GGSM (Graduate of the Guildhall school of Music and Drama) qualification (1984) and Postgraduate Diploma (GSMD) (1984-1988) in Vocal Studies.

Jayne Whitaker is a professional singer and has performed extensively in th UK and abroad. Her professional experience as a singer (1997-2015) inludes: Raymond Gubbay Opera productions at Royal Albert Hall; Glyndebourne Festival Opera and Touring Opera (1996-1998), including Mrs Coyle in Benjamin Britten's Owen Wingrave (1997), Krista in Makropolous Case (1997), Rodelinda in George Frideric Handel's Rodelinda (1998). From 1985 to 1995, she was a member of several choirs: The Monteverdi Choir (Director: John Eliot Gardiner) Polyphony (Director: Stephen Layton), Taverner Consort (Director: Andrew Parrott) and other professional ensembles.

Jayne Whitaker is a singing, flute and piano teacher since 1991, with experience in guiding and encouraging students of all ages and abilities to achieve their maximum potential across a broad range of musical genres. Her aims are to be aware of and adaptive to students' learning styles and to enhance their enjoyment and appreciation of classical music and musical theatre, instilling in them a life-long love of music and performance. She has had hundreds of students achieve excellent grades in ABRSM and Trinity College examinations; and students who have gone on to a career in music both in the classical world and in musical theatre. She places a high level of importance on technique, communication and interpretation and encourage any opportunity to perform.

Jayne Whitaker's teaching experience as Peripatetic Music Teacher: Rosebery School for Girls, Epsom (since 2007); Therfield School, Leatherhead (since 2006); Surrey Arts County Music Service (Greville Junior School) (since 2004); Greenacre School for Girls, Banstead (1998-2008); Manor House School, Bookham (1993-2003). Other teaching experience: Private music tuition (since 1989). In addition. she has been a music examiner for the Trinity College Music Exam board since 2009. She currently lives in Southwater, Horsham, West. Sussex.
