Lida Wels (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: The Netherlands

The Dutch mezzo-soprano, Lida Wels, began at a young age playing keyboard instruments, first organ, later piano, which she studied over 10 years. She also played some years flute and accompanied various ensembles on the harpsichord. From her fourth year she sings in choirs and ensembles. In Utrecht and Texel she also attended a course in choral conducting.

Lida Wels was for 15 years a member of the choir of the Nederlandse Bachvereniging (Director: Jos van Veldhoven), where she gained a lot of experience and knowledge with conductors like Ton Koopman, Jos van Veldhoven, Gustav Leonhardt and Paul McCreesh. She succeeds for many years singing lessons, now with Melanie Greve in Haarlem.

Lida Welsh directs the Verstandelijk Gehandicapten (mentally handicapped) ensemble. In Texel, she directs the choir Amici Cantus. On the other side, she forms part of the vocal sextet Quintessens which appears frequently in various places in the Netherlands.
