Julian Walker (Bass)

Born: England

The English bass (and former tenor), Julian Walker, has been a member of several renowned English vocal ensembles: The Tallis Scholars (Director: Peter Phillips) (1978-2011), Cambridge Singers (Director: John Rutter) (1991-1995), Taverner Consort (Director: Andrew Parrott) (1988) and The New Company (1990-1994).

The New Company was formed in 1990 by a group of singers from some of London's top chamber choirs The objective was to found a choir which would have the extra challenge of working with different conductors. ditterent styles. and different repertoires. For that reason the permanent feature of the chair is the singers rather than the conductor. The choir is a regular guest at Anthony Rolfe-Johnson's Gregynog Festival and in 1993 made successful debuts at the Covent Garden Festival and the BBC Proms with Frans Brüggen in L.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9; a programme which toured Belgium and Germany. In 1994 the choir made its debut at the Edinburgh Festival in two concerts - L.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 with Sir Charles Mackerras and an a cappelta programme.
