Verena Usemann (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: 1981 - Hamburg, Germany

The German mezzo-soiprano, Verena Usemann, had first learnt the cello and piano before she began at age 18 her singing training with Ulla Groenewold. She studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" in Leipzig with Professor Regina Werner-Dietrich and the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna with Professor Claudia Visca.

Even before her diploma in 2007, Verena Usemann had already stage experience as the 2nd Dame in Die Zauberflöte and Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro in Ulm, as Ruggiero in Alcina in Leipzig and as Prince Orlowsky in Die Fledermaus in Vienna. As a Lieder singer she appeared at the Max-Reger-Tagen in Weiden and at the Beethoven Festival in Bonn. In the summer of 2008 she sang Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte at the Opernfestspielen Gut Immling

Since the 2008-2009 season Verena Usemann is a permanent ensemble member of the Musiktheaters am Theater für Niedersachsen, where she appeared, inter alia, as Frau Reich in the Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor, as Maddalena in Rigoletto, as Mercédès in Carmen, as Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel and as Zaida in The Turk in Italy..
