Roman Tsotsalas (Baritone)

Born: Düsseldorf, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany

The German baritone, Roman Tsotsalas, was a member of the choir of the former Hofkirche St. Andreas for many years. He received his musical education at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater, Hannover and at the Conservatorio Benedetto Marcello in Venice. From 2011 to 2012 he completed the excellence program Barock Vokal of the Kollegs für Alte Musik der Hochschule für Musik, Mainz.

Roman Tsotsalas has been able to establish a broad repertoire in recent years, especially in the field of early music. He collaborated with such important artists as Ton Koopman, Andreas Scholl, Wolfgang Katschner, Rüdiger Lotter or Michael Hofstetter.

Roman Tsotsalas sang at the Felicia Blumenthal Festival Tel Aviv, Telemann-Festtagen-Magdeburg, the Internationalen Händelfestspielen Göttingen, Festwochen Herrenhausen in Hannover, Thüringer Bachwochen or the Düsseldorf Festival. Concert tours have taken him to Italy, France, Belgium, Israel and South Africa. He performs regularly with the Neumeyer Consort under the direction of Felix Koch and the Lautten Compagney Berlin under Wolfgang Katschner. In 2015, together with tenor Christoph Rosenbaum, he founded the ensemble FILUM, with which he has since devoted himself very successfully to vocal music from the 15th to the 17th century.

His operatic repertoire includes W.A. Mozart's Figaro, Guglielmo and Papageno, as well as specialist roles such as Malatesta, Dr. Falke, Graf von Eberbach, Ottokar or Tsar Peter I. He was engaged at the Theater für Niedersachsen, Hildesheim and guested at the Musiktheater im Revier, Gelsenkirchen, Staatstheater Kassel, Theater Plauen-Zwickau, Wernigeröder Schlossfestspielen, Hamburger Kammeroper and Schlossoper Haldenstein, Chur (Switzerland). Roman Tsotsalas currently lives in Malmö and works from there performs across Europe as a freelance concert and opera singer.
