Germaine Stordiau (Soprano)

Born: Holland

The Dutch soprano, Germaine Stordiau, studied at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. She completed her studies in Vienna and Antwerp, and with Pierre Bernac in Paris.

Germaine Stordiau made her debut at the end of 1963. A year later she won the first prize of the International Opera Competition in Antwerp, Belgium and was proclaimed the "Operastar of 1964". After this, many concerts followed in Holland and abroad, as well as her debut with the Hague Philharmonic Orchestra and with the Radio Orchestra. She sang during the Wiener Festwochen 1965 and with Neuer Wiener Musikverein. She was connected with the Opera of Mainz as a lyrical and coloratura soprano. She appeared for the first time on television with the opera Mirror from Venice by Hendrik Andriessen. She sang Francis Poulenc's Gloria and Rossini's Petite Messe Solenelle at the Holland Festival.
