Henk Smit (Bass)

Born: May 25, 1932 - Surhuisterveen, the Netherlands
Died: July 17, 2010 - Paris, France

Henk Smit was a Dutch concert, oratorio and opera singer. He started as a real bass in roles as Zaccharia and Méphistophélès and just later on he changed to dramatic bass-baritone roles. Numerous appearances in a big varied repertoire from J.S. Bach via Wagner to the modern composers. He performed at the Holland Festival and at the premieres of Winter Cruise (1979, Henkemans) and Esmée (1995, Loevendie) . He also gave numerous performances in Europe as well in the USA.
