Julla Schmidt (Soprano)

Born: 1981 - Munich, Bavaria, Germany

The German soprano, Julla Schmidt, had her initial vocal training at the Bayerischen Singakademie with Tanja d’Althann, also studying there stage settings as a maker of masks and costumes. Her studies then took her in 2000 to the Münchner Konservatorium, where she studied singing with Frieder Lang and historical performance practice with Michael Eberth and Hartwig Groth. After two years she moved to Trossinger Institut für Alte Musik, where she studied singing with Richard Wistreich and Christian Hilz and then the Hochschule für Musik und Theater “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” in Leipzig, where she was a pupil of Elvira Dreßen. She is cultural award winner of the city of Landsberg.

Julla Schmidt directs the Ensemble Tourdion specialized in madrigals. In 2004 she founded, with three colleagues, the Ensemble Santenay (flute, fiddle, lute, singer and organetto), specialising in music of the Middle Ages and Early Renaissance, under the supervision of Kees Boeke of the Trossingen Musikhochschule.

Julla Schmidt enjoys a freelance career as a singer of early music, collaborating with various ensembles, including She is also a member of the Kammerchor Stuttgart (Director: Frieder Bernius). She is also involved in the design and collection of historical costumes.
