Susanne Schaeffer (Contralto)

Born: Germany

The German contralto, Susanne Schaeffer, had 1995-1996 scholarship of the Stiftung Villa Musica. From 1997 to 2000 she studied music and singing at the Johannes-Gutenberg-Universität in Mainz with Elisabeth Fellner-Köberle and Maria Tuczek-Graf. She also participated in master-classes with Claudia Rüggeberg and Ulf Bästlein, singing interpretation course with Sergiu Celibidache, and Schubert Lieder course with Leonard Hokanson. She has compiled an extensive Lieder repertoire together with her husband, the pianist Burkhard Schaeffer. She has been a repeated prize-winner in national competitions of the Bundeswettbewerbs Gesang.

Susanne Schaeffer has given numerous Lieder recitals and is a soloist in demand in oratorios. Thus she sang among other things, in 1999 George Frideric Handel's Messiah at the Stadttheater Gießen, L.v. Beethoven's 9th Symphony under the baton of Rainer Koch at the Konzerthalle "Forum" in Leverkusen and Le Laudi di San Francesco d'Assisi by Hermann Suter and Komm, Heilger`Geist, Du, schöpferisch by Rudolf Petzold under the baton of Horst Meinardus at the Kölner Philharmonie. In addition she sang the first alto part in a CD production of Schumann's Faustszenen. In May 2004 (?) she appeared in G.F. Handel's Messiah under the baton of Heribert Beissel at the Markusdom in Venice. She has appeared several times as a guest with the Philharmonische Chor Siegen.

Radio and TV broadcasts (HR and SWR) document the artistic work of Susanne Schaeffer.
