Gerda Schaarwächter (Choral Conductor)

Born: Düsseldorf, Germany

The German choral conductor and church musician, Gerda Schaarwächter, studied music education and church music at the Kölner Musikhochschule (classes of H. Schroeder, H. Klotz)), conducting with P. Hammers. She studied singing with H. Marten.

Since 1963, Gerda Schaarwächter has been Kantorin at the Evgl. Kirchengemeinde Klettenberg, several years of secondary school teacher. As a member of the Vocal Consort Köln and for a short period of Sertum musicale Coloniense, she often sang as alto. Numerous radio recordings for the WDR. She is the District Kantorin of the churches of Köln-Mitte (Cologne Center), assistant to the regional churches for organ and church music and Church Music Director (KMD) since 1990. For 12 years, she directs the seminar for Protestant church music at the Rheinischen Musikschule Köln. She has particular interest in new church music. She has written several compositions, including Laus Trinitati.
