Yuri Maria Saenz (Soprano)

Born: Takarazuka, Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan

The Japanese-born soprano, Yuri Maria Saenz, studied at 神戸女学院大学 in Nishinomiya, Hyogo. She obtained her Master of Music degree from Manhattan School of Music in New York.

Yuri Maria Saenz has sung on many of the world’s most prominent stages, like Carnegie Hall in New York. She has performed at Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, Theatre du Capitole in Toulouse, and Suntory Hall in Tokyo. After her opera debut in New York’s Merkin Hall as Asteria in George Frideric Handel's Tamerlano, The New York Times remarked that her voice was “superbly fiery.” Some of her other roles include the Queen of the Night in W.A. Mozart's The Magic Flute, Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto, and the title roles in Lakme by Delibes, and Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor.

Yuri Maria Saenz was the featured performer March 2016 concert of the Valley Symphony Orchestra & Chorale conducted by Peter Dabrowski at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Performing Arts Center. She is married to the cellist Daniel Saenz and currently lives in Spring, Texas.
