Stefan-Alexander Rankl (Tenor)

Born: Switzerland ?

The Swiss (?) tenor, Stefan-Alexander Rankl, studied after high school and training for teacher of German music and singing, at the Hochschule Mozarteum with KS Karl-Christian Kohn and Horiana Branisteanu. In 1997 he finished studying Lied and Oratorio at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz with Professor Thomas Kerbl with unanimous distinction. In 1999 he studied with Kurt Widmer for obtaining the soloist diploma at the Musikhochschule in Basel, with honors. At the Leipzig International Bach Competition in 1998, he won prize for the best interpretation of an aria from J.S Bach's Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248).

Stefan-Alexander Rankl appeared as a soloist at the Municipal Theater of St. Gallen and could be heard in the following works: in 1998-1999 Leonetto in F.v. Suppés Boccacio and Harlekin in V. Ullmann's Kaiser von Atlantis; in 1999-2000 Jaquino in L.v. Betthoven's Fidelio and Isauro in Antonio Lotti's Teofane; in 2000-2001 Pedrillo/Belmonte in W.A. Mozart's Entführung aus dem Serail and Gustl in F. Léhar's Land des Lächelns; in 2000-2001 Wenzel in B. Smétana's Verkaufte Braut and Tamino in W.A. Mozart's Zauberflöte. His favourite roles are: Belmonte, Don Ottavio, Ferrando (Mozart); Oratorios by Haydn, J.S. Bach (Evangelist & Arias) and Felix Mendelssohn; Lieder cycles of Schubert and Robert Schumann.
