Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana (Orchestra)

Founded: 1978 - Marche, Italy

The Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana (= OFM) was founded in 1978 by some young musicians from the Marche district aiming to fill in the gap due to the lack of a local orchestra. In the course of years the activity of this self-managed musical ensemble has become increasingly important so far as to set up a real orchestra which, for quality and quantity, has now the character of a semi-permanent Regional Orchestra.

In 1985 the associates of the OFM formed themselves into “Società Filarmonica Marchigiana” which, besides its primary purpose to develop and mantain a professional musical ensemble, also operates in the field of musical research, with special attention to the rediscovery of works by composers from Marche.

The OFM performs about eighty symphonic concerts a year in the Marche district, but is active also throughout Italy and abroad. The OFM is also the official ensemble for the Opera Seasons of the G.B. Pergolesi Theatre in Jesi and the Arena Sferisterio in Macerata.

The OFM was conducted and appreciated, with excellent reviews, by important conductors such as Franci, Giovaninetti, Guadagno, Köning, Kuhn, Maag, Oren, Veltri. In December 1987 the OFM was awarded the ministerial recognition of Istituzione Concertistica Orchestrale.
