Johann Jacob Van Niekerk (Conductor)

Born: Heidelberg, Gauteng, South Africa

The South African conductor, Johann Jacob Van Niekerk, studied at the University Of Pretoria (Bachelors of Music, 2008) and at the University of South Africa (Post-graduate Performer's Licentiate in Piano, 2009). He obtained his Masters of Music in Choral Conducting from Temple University (2009-2011), and his Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from the University Of Washington (2011-2014).

Johann Jacob Van Niekerk is an active conductor, pianist, educator, writer and collaborative artist based in Seattle, Washington. He was Graduate Assistant at Temple University (2009-2011); and Intern at Drakensberg Boys Choir School in South Africa (2009-2012). He served as a lecturer at the University of Washington Tacoma where he founded a new music program in Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (2012-2014). Since 2011 he currently serves as Director of Music at Rainier Beach Presbyterian Church, a flagship multicultural church within the Seattle metropolitan area. He is also a staff writer for Vanguard Seattle, covering music, dance and theatre events in Seattle and the greater Pacific Northwest.
