Naumburger Domchor (Choir)

Founded: Naumburg, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany

Der Naumburger Domchor (The Naumburg Cathedral Choir) currently consists of about 70 singers. As amateur ensemble, the choir is open to all. It unites people who enjoy singing and the common experience of large and smaller choral literature.

In addition to the musical participation in the church services and other liturgical celebrations at the Naumburger Dom, the choir regularly performs major works for chorus and orchestra such as:
2009: Symphonic Cantata Der Lobgesang by Felix Mendelssohn
2010: the oratorio The Messiah by George Frideric Handel and J.S. Bach's Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248): Cantatas 1-3 & 6
2011: Te Deum Laudamus by Marc Antonin Charpentier and 7 cantatas by J.S. Bach
2012: Magnificat by the contemporary English composer John Rutter and Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) by J.S. Bach
2013: F. Mendelssohn's oratorio Elijah and Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) by J.S. Bach
2014: Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) by J.S. Bach (April), W.A. Mozart's Requiem (October) and Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) by J.S. Bach (December)
2015: Liverpool Oratorio by Paul McCartney as a premiere in Saxony-Anhalt, Cantata 4 from Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) by J.S. Bach, chorale cantata Verleih uns Frieden by F. Mendelssohn

By 2016, the following performances are planned:
Coronation Mass by W.A. Mozart (260th birthday) in October
Choral Cantata cycle of Max Reger (100th anniversary):
Christmas: Vom Himmel hoch da komm ich her (January 6 - Epiphany)
Good Friday: O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden (March 25 - Good Friday)
Easter Sunday: Auferstanden, auferstanden (April 24 - Sunday Cantata)
Meinen Jesum laß ich nicht (June 12)
For Totenfest: " O wie selig seid ihr doch, ihr Frommen s (November 6)
Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) by J.S. Bach (December)

The Director of the Naumburger Domchor since 2008 is KMD Jan-Martin Drafehn.
