Musica Glorifica (Baroque Ensemble)

Born: 2002 - South Korea

Musica Glorifica was established in 2002 by Jin Kim, Korea’s first Baroque violinist who established a firm international reputation with an aim to promote the performance of "authentic" Earlymusic for Korean music lovers.

Since its establishment, Musica Glorifica has grown into Korea’s leading musical group dedicated to Earlymusic, presenting over ten subscription concerts and special overseas performances with distinguished Korean artists participating and some of the world’s top musicians in Early music, such as Kuijken brothers, Philippe Pierlot and Marc Hantaï. The ensemble has been keen in introducing Korean audiences to the instrumental music and repertories of Baroque Music as well as to the historical significance and the mind of the world of Earlymusic via performance of vocal music and dance representing the period.

Musica Glorifica has presented subscription concerts for music lovers not just in Seoul but in local areas as well, offering them a rare opportunity to experience Earlymusic via live performance. Its performance of “Fragrance of Music”, a popular classical music program presented by KBS 1FM, found a particularly enthusiastic reception among the music lovers gathered for the event.

In November 2004, Musica Glorifica became Korea’s first musical group to record a Baroque Music CD entitled “The Psalms for You - Italian Music of the 17th Century”. The CD was found very successful and has since continued to be loved by both experts and ordinary music lovers. Meanwhile, the leader of the ensemble Kim Jin has continued to fascinate her Japanese fans for over ten years with performances that “(are) enough to clean our soul with transparent, beautiful and serene sounds” (Mitsui Akira in Sinbo Monthly Review).

Jin Kim learned the authentic techniques of Baroque violin from Sigiswald Kuijken, a world renowned violinist and conductor noted for authentic instruments, and she has performed extensively in Europe, the USA and Japan. Currently, she devotes herself to the promotion of Early music in Korea, spending all her resources to get over hardships surrounding the genre and link of authentic Early music with music lovers in Korea.

As a messenger dedicated to delivering the depth and beauty of Earlymusic to all music lovers, musicaGlorifica provides the audience with energy, vitality and the serenity of nature via sensitive and creative performances.
