Duo Mélisande (Guitar Duo)

Founded: France

The French guitarists, Sébastien Llinares and Nicolas Lestoquoy, are both graduates of the prestigious Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris, where they studied respectively in the classes of the masters Rafael Andia and Alberto Ponce.

Duo Mélisande's interpretation is distinguished by a touch derived from the greatest guitarist tradition and a particular attention in terms of musicological accuracy. By renewing Goldberg Variations (BWV 988), the famous work by J.S. Bach, both a Baroque synthesis and a timeless masterpiece, they open up perspectives for their instrument. For this project, they chose to play on modern guitars by the Australian luthier Graham Caldersmith. Thanks to the power and the wide sound palette of these instruments, these Goldberg Variations (BWV 988) can be adapted to all concert halls and reach a wide audience. Sébastien Llinares and Nicolas Lestoquoy use the transcription of Benedetto Montebello (eds. Chanterelle) to which they make modifications, mainly in terms of ornamentation and distribution of voices.
