David Martínez (Guitar)

Born: 1975 - Granda, Spain

The Spanish guitarist, David Martínez began his musical studies at seven years of age with his father, while singing as soloist of the Granada Conservatory Choir. He later studied with his uncle, professor Carmelo Martínez, graduating in 1993 from the Superior Conservatory of Granada with the silver medal of the Young Interpreters of the Musical Youth of Granada. He was then accepted to the class of the Mozarteum of Salzburg, Austria, with Joaquín Clerch and Eliot Fisk as professors. In 1998, he was selected to be part of the hommage to Andrés Segovia in Granada, and at the Hochschule für Musik in Munich in Germany. He has taken master-classes with David Russell, Hugo Geller, Jose Tomas, Ivan Rijos and Anthony Spiri in Ancient Music.

David Martínez has won over 15 international prizes, including those of Plasencia (1996), Comillas (1996), Velez Málaga (1997), "Andrés Segovia" of Linares (1997), "Villa de Puente Genil" (2000), "Ciudad de Coria" (2001), "Andrés Segovia" de La Herredura, Almuñecar (2004), "Julián Arcas" de Almeria (2004), and the First Prize at the "Francisco Tárrega" of Benicassim (2004).

David Martínez' concert career began when he was 12 years old, playing as soloist with the Youth Orchestra of Granada. He has also played with the Orchestra of the Superior Conservatory of Granada, the Joven Orquesta de Castilla la Mancha, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Kharkov (Ucraina), Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, and the International Youth Orchestra. He has given solo concerts throughout Spain, Germany, Egypt, USA, Portugal and Turkey. This season (2007-2008), he will be performing in Córdoba, Málaga, Chicago, Kansas City, Istanbul, Ankara, Palau de la Música de Valencia, and Miami.

David Martínez has participated in a diversity of television and radio programs in Radio Nacional de España, National Turkish Radio, Canal Sur, Channel 2 of Andalucía, National Television of Turkey and others. He has recorded his first CD in Toronto, Canada, for Naxos Label in 2005.

Presently, David Martínez is teaching at the Conservatorio Profesional de Música of Baza.
