Witold Malcużyński (Piano)

Born: August 10, 1914 - Koziczyn, Oland
Died: July 17, 1977 - Palma, Majorca

The outstanding Polish-born Argentine pianist, Witold Malcużyński, was a student of Turczyyński at the Warsaw Coneservatory (graduated, 1936) and took courses in law and philosophy at the University of Warsaw before completing his training with Ignacy Paderewski in Switzerland (1936). In 1937 he took 3rd prize at the Chopin Competition in Warsaw.

In 1938 Witold Malcużyński married the French pianist Colette Gaveau and went to Paris. With the cominng of World War II, he went to South America in 1940 and became a naturalized Argentine citizen. In 1942 he made his USA debut at New York's Carnegie Hall, in 1945 he appeared in London with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. In subsequent years made regular tours of the USA and South America. Between 1949 and 1956 he made two world tours and 14 tours of the USA. He was made an honorary member of the Chopin Society in Warsaw, Poland.

Witold Malcużyński became well-known for his performances of the Romantic repertoire, especially of the music of Chopin.
