Emmy Loose (Soprano)

Born: January 22, 1914 - Karbitz/Aussig (on the Elbe), Bohemia
Died: October 14, 1987 - Vienna, Austria

The Austrian soprano, Emmy Loose, was educated at the Prague Conservatory, and passed the State Examinations in singing there.

In 1939 Emmy Loose made her debut as Blondchen in Die Entführung aus dem Serail in Hannover. After two years of engagements in Hannover, she was contracted in 1941 to the Vienna State Opera. She sang there for many years as lyric and coloratura soprano. In 1954 the title of Kammersängerin was bestowed on her by the President of the Austrian Republic. She also appeared at the festivals in Salzburg, Glyndebourne, Aix-en-Provence, and Bregenz, at Milan’s La Scala, London’s Covent Garden, as well as Japan and North and South America.

From 1970 Emmy Loose taught at the Vienna Academy of Music. She was admired for her fine soubrette roles in the operas of Mozart and Richard Strauss.
