Richard Latham (Baritone, Choral conductor)

Born: England

The English baritone and choral conductor, Richard Latham, was organ scholar at Emmanuel College, Cambridge and later choral scholar at King’s College. After working in New York as an organist he trained as a singer at the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

Richard Latham returned to Cambridge in 2010 and has been combining his work as a singer with directing the choir at Emmanuel. He is the Director of Chapel Music at Emmanuel, responsible for planning and directing the activities of the Choir and the work of the organ scholars.

On the concert platform Richard Latham has performed Robert Schumann's Szenen aus Goethes Faust with Stephen Cleobury and the King's College Choir Cambridge and Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem with the Philharmonia Chorus and Southbank Sinfonia. He works regularly with Richard Egarr and the Academy of Ancient Music and, most recently, sang the role of Pastore II in Monteverdi’s Orfeo with the Academy of Ancient Music at the Barbican. He also appears as a soloist on a number of recordings, including J.S. Bach's St John Passion (BWV 245) with Academy of Ancient Music, vocal works by Christopher Gibbons with Academy of Ancient Music and Orfeo with Taverner Consort & Players, conducted by Andrew Parrott.
