Marthe Lacasse (Choral Conductor)

Born: Canada

The Canadian choral conductor, Marthe Lacasse, has studied choral and orchestral conducting with Agnes Grossman, Gerald Bales and Françoys Bernier. She is music graduate of the University of Ottawa and the recipient of numerous bursaries and prizes. She hails from the National Capital Region where she has left her mark on the musical life of that area.

A student of the late conductor, Françoys Bernier, Marthe Lacasse was Bernier’s assistant for six years with the University of Ottawa Choir. In 1987 she conducted Charpentier’s Te Deum in concert with the choir and orchestra of the University of Ottawa, which was broadcast on Radio-Canada’s national radio network.

Marthe Lacasse's association with the Chœur classique de Montréal began in the fall of 1992 as a rehearsal conductor. In June 1993, she conducted the choir in Sergei Rachmaninov’s Vespers at Trois-Rivières’ Festival international de musi-que vocale. She has been Musical director of the Chœur classique de Montréal since September 1993.
