Mathis Koch (Bass-Baritone)

Born: Herford, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany,

The German harpist and bass-baritone, Mathis Koch, grew up in a family of musicians in Herford, received at the age of 7 the first harp lessons and gained early experience in beautiful singing in a variety of choirs. Since 2008, he studied at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold: harp with Godelieve Schrama and singing with Heiner Eckels, Lars Woldt and Mario Zeffiri.

Mathis Koch sings in the Kammerchor Stuttgart under the direction of Frieder Bernius, performs as an oratorio and concert singer and is regularly seen in opera productions; among others as Pandolfe in Massenet's Cendrillon, as Hárascha in Janáček's The Cunning Little Vixen and as Jupiter in Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld. As a harp soloist he most recently played with the orchestra Opus 7. After his successful participation in the Akademie 2016/17, he sings since the 2017-2018 as a permanent member of the ensemble of the Rundfunkchor Berlin.
