Michael Knapp (Tenor)

Born: Vienna, Austria

The Austrian tenor, Michael Knapp, was treble soloist with the Wiener Sängerknaben. He received Abitur (school-leaving examination) at the Musikgymnasium, Vienna; Diploma with distinction for completed ‘solo singing’ studies with M. Heppe and Kammersänger G. Nienstedt and ‘Lied and oratorio’ with D. Lutz, all at the Vienna Conservatory.

Michael Knapp has been tenor soloist in concerts throughout Europe (including Berliner Philharmoniker, Wiener Musikverein), engagements at various music theatres and opera houses (e.g. Teatro Liceo, Barcelona; Wiener Kammeroper; Copenhagen Chamber Opera, etc.). He has given also Lieder recitals (including, Schubert’s Die Schöne Müllerin, Robert Schumann’s Liederkreis op. 39, L.v. Beethoven’s An die ferne Geliebte, etc.).

Michael Knapp made radio and disc recordings for Capriccio-Delta Music, ORF, Bavarian Radio, RIAS Berlin, and Radio Warsaw.
