Anna Kargl (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: Judenburg, Styria, Austria

The Austrian mezzo-soprano, Anna Kargl, born in Judenburg and raised in St. Pölten, received violin and piano lessons at a young age. The singing and the fascination with music of all genres are still a matter of the heart to her today. In her youth, she began classical singing training at the St. Pöltner Konservatorium für Kirchenmusik. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Musicology at the Universität Wien, as well as Bachelor of Arts in Solo Singing voice at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien (University for Music and Performing Arts Vienna; MDW). She is currently studying for Master oif Music degree in Lied and Oratorio with Claudia Visca and Florian Boesch. Master-classes with Stephan Van Dyck and Rosa Poulimenou as well as with Kurt Widmer enriched her studies in addition to a language study in Tuscany lasting several months.

Anna Kargl can look back on many years of church music experience at Dommusik St. Pölten. She performs at church music festivals with works by Dietrich Buxtehude, Heinrich Schütz, J.S. Bach and C. Monteverdi (Musica Sacra (St. Pölten), Evening Music Events (Wien), Internationales Orgelkammermusik-Festival (Faak/See), Abendmusiken Mariahilf (Graz), etc.) and gives regular recitals (her repertoire ranges from J. Dowland to Robert Schumann, F. Schubert, Johannes Brahms, Gustav Mahler, H. Wolf, A. Zemlinsky, Arnold Schoenberg, Leonard Bernstein and C. Wolff).

On the opera stage Anna Kargl apperared as Joachim in a scenic George Frideric Handel's Susanna and as Larina in P.I. Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin at the Schlosstheater Schönbrunn. In the course of the Festivalsommers Jennerdorf she played the Elder Brother and The Queen in the fairy tale opera Der gestiefelte Kater (Puss in Boots) by César A. Cui. As a member of the ensemble oper@tee, she has played the roles of Hänsel in the opera Hänsel und Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck, Tonios in Der kleine Prinz by Adolf Müller, Jr., Kathi in Der Liebeswalzer, and Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus by J. Strauss.
