Itacha College Chamber Orchestra (Chamber Orchestra)

Founded: Itacha, New York, USA

The Ithaca College Chamber Orchestra (= ICCO), directed by Jeffery Meyer, is comprised of 30 to 40 of the School of Music's top string, wind and percussion players and is dedicated to performing string and chamber orchestra repertoire from the Baroque through the twentieth century, as well as contemporary works of our time. The ICCO presents numerous performances per year and also serves as the opera orchestra in at least one operatic production per concert season.

The ICCO has toured Ireland and performed throughout upstate New York as well as at numerous New York State School Music Association Conferences to universal acclaim. The ICCO recently performed at Cornell University under the baton of Leon Fleisher as part of the 2010 Beethoven Concerto Project. Other guest conductors in recent seasons have included Carl St. Clair (Pacific Symphony), Leslie Dunner (Louisville Ballet), and Gustav Meier (Peabody). Guest soloists in recent seasons have included Malcolm Bilson (fortepiano), Ursula Oppens (piano) and David Russell, (cello). The orchestra has a demonstrated commitment to a wide diversity of repertoire for chamber orchestra including the music of our time. It has worked with composers such as William Bolcom, Melinda Wagner and Diego Vego among others. During the 2010-2011 season, the Ithaca College Chamber Orchestra Composition Competition was founded in order to encourage the creation of new works for chamber orchestra. The competition drew over 100 entries from North America.

Membership in the IC Symphony Orchestra/Chamber Orchestra is open to all IC students by audition. Audition repertoire and excerpts are available online. Auditions take place during the first week of fall classes. Auditions must show a mastery of the material and an awareness of the musical context from which the excerpts are taken. In addition to the ICSO and ICCO, there is also the Ithaca College Sinfonietta which meets for two hours per week and presents one concert per semester.
