Angelika Huber (Soprano)

Born: Germany

The German soprano, Angelika Huber, sang for several years with the children’s choir of the Bavarian State and continued her musical education at the Bayerische Singakademie (a scholarship system of the Bavarian State). After graduating from high school, she studied singing at the Munich Academy for Music and Theater as a student of Silvia Greenberg, Thomas E. Bauer and Christian Gerhaher as well as in the courses for Lied offered by Fritz Schwinghammer. She also received important impulses from Tanja d’Althann as well as master-courses held by Christoph Prégardien, András Schiff and Brigitte Fassbaender.

As the winner of the first federal "Jugend musiziert" contest (a German competition of young musical talents), and the finalist at the federal Song contest in Berlin, Angelika Huber already sang in numerous opera productions during her studies. Among these productions were W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro or George Frideric Handel's Giulio Cesare. Opera engagements let her perform at the Prinzregententheater in Munich, among others. She worked with renowned conductors, such as Zubin Mehta, Iván Fischer, Hartmut Haenchen, Ulf Schirmer or Frieder Bernius. She performs regularly in European festivals, for example, at the “Amiata Piano Festival”. She has been on tours to Argentina and Israel. She is also a member of the Kammerchor Stuttgart (Director: Frieder Bernius).

Angelika Huber can easily switch between different music styles, from Baroque cantatas and passions via operas of the classic and romantic periods all the way to contemporary compositions. Many debuts, for instance, ith the Münchner Rundfunkorchester (the Munich Radio Orchestra) have been recorded on CD.

Lieder recitals are a special focus of her concert activities. After a concert with Gustav Mahler’s Rückert Lieder, the Saarbrücker Zeitung (a local paper in Saarbrücken) wrote “Perfect Lied artistry”. She is highly committed to the task of rediscovering composers of the 19th century. Impressive examples are given in her well-thought-out concert programs and on her CD's “Women and Brahms”, “Schubert and his circle of friends” and “Of eternal love” with world premiere recordings of Pauline Viardot-Garcia, Josephine Lang, Anselm Hüttenbrenner, Johann Michael Vogl, Franz Lachner and Gustav Jenner. Her latest Lied-CD contains Shakespeare's Sonnets and other works of Anton Beer-Walbrunn.
