Mattijs Hoogendijk (Tenor)

Born: The Netherlands

The Dutch tenor, Mattijs Hoogendijk, graduated cum laude from the Zwolle Conservatory, singing Robert Schumann's Dichterliebe and Tamino in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte. Mattijs was taught by Felix Schoonenboom and continued his studies with Cora Canne Meijer.

With his smooth, lyrical sound and convenient height Mattijs Hoogendijk has developed into a versatile singer with a similarly versatile repertoire. He stood in several opera productions including Figaro! with Opera Nijetrijne, King Arthur by Purcell and Orfeo by Claudio Monteverdi. He performed in musical theater productions as Jonah the naysayer by Willem Breuker, William and Mary and Purcell Gala. Next season summer festivals in France and a tour of the Dutch theaters with Handel Revue of Barokopera Amsterdam are planned.

In the area of ​​oratorio Mattijs Hoogendijk's appearances as a soloist include Maria Vespers by Monteverdi, Messiah by George Frideric Handel, W.A. Mozart's Requiem, Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, J.S. Bach's Passions and Benjamin Britten. He sang the Evangelist in Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) conducted by Nico van der Meel and J.S. Bach's cantatas with the Kölner Akademie in Istanbul.

Mattijs Hoogendijk has appeared with his wife the soprano Sonia Bjornsen and the lutenist Lex van Sante in the Netherlands and the USA with a superb recital with renaissance music by Dowland, Byrd and Ciconia. An album of this programme would soon be released.

Mattijs Hoogendijk is a regular member of the Nederlands Kamerkoor and Cappella Amsterdam. He toured with Bach Collegium Japan (Director: Masaaki Suzuki) in Europe and the USA and performed as a soloist in concerts and radio recordings under the direction of Reinbert de Leeuw, Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Risto Joost.
