Stephanie Hampl (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: Munich, Bavaria, Germany

In 2000 The German mezzo-soprano, Stephanie Hampl, started in 2000 her professional voice studies at the Musikhochschule Augsburg with Professor F. Kuegel-Seifried. During this time she sang the roles of Dorabella in W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte and the Third Lady in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte. After receiving her diploma she went on to the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, where she broadened her studies in master-classes with such artists as Helmut Deutsch and Christian Gerhaher. During the same period, she was accepted at the Bayerische Theaterakademie, where she sang Ramiro in W.A. Mozart's La finta giardiniera under Ulf Schirmer and the Münchner Rundfunkorchester, an appearance which led to her debut at Theater Würzburg in the same role. In 2007 she sucessfully completed her studies with distinction. She attended master-classes with Rudolf Piernay, Margreet Honig, Edith Wiens, John Norris and Brigitte Fassbaender. She has been a scholarship-holder of the Richard Wagner Verband and the International Bach Akademie Stuttgart. She has been a prize-winner with the International Meistersingerwettbewerb Neustadt, Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg, Theaterpreis Augsburg and the Bayerische Kunstförderpreis. Her current singing tutors are Tobias Meisberger and Daniela Sindram.

For the 2007-2008 season, Stephanie Hampl was a member of the Opera Studio of the Bayerische Staatsoper München. There she received intensive support, took on for small roles in productions on the main stage and took part in several concert projects. From 2008 to 2015, she joined the ensemble at Theater Augsburg, where she has sung (amongst others) Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Second Lady in Die Zauberflöte, Cherubino in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, Mercédès in Georges Bizet's Carmen, Prinz Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, Gymnasiast in Alban Berg's Lulu, Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, Donna Elvira in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni, Lazuli in LŽEtoile, Maddalena in Rigoletto, Mélisande in Pelléas et Mélisande, Hänsel in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel and Ramiro in W.A. Mozart's La finta giardiniera.

Guest engagements brought Stephanie Hampl to Mainfranken Theater Würzburg, Theater Basel, Theater Aachen, Staatstheater Nürnberg, Landestheater Coburg, Südthüringisches Staatstheater Meiningen, Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater Schwerin and the Staatstheater Stuttgart.

Her repertoire is also focused on lots of Mezzo and Alto roles in concert and oratorio work. Her concert appearances have taken her to Liederhalle Stuttgart, Bremer Glocke, Auditorio Nacional Madrid, Thomaskirche Leipzig, Philharmonie Berlin and München under such conductors as Helmuth Rilling and Frieder Bernius. She was a member of the Kammerchor Stuttgart (Director: Frieder Bernius).

While working as a freelance artist, Stephanie Hampl is also sucessfully engaged in voice teaching and sings as a member of the Konzertchor des Bayerischen Rundfunk. She currently lives in Augsburg, Germany.
