The English mezzo-soprano, Alexandra Gibson, studied at the Royal College of Music.
Alexandra Gibson is in great demand throughout europe and enjoys a busy career combining concerts, opera, broadcasts and recordings. She is particularly renowned for her interpretation of Baroque music. She has collaborated with many well known international orchestras and conductors including Harry Christophers and Symphony of Harmony and Invention, Laurence Cummings and London Handel Players, Emmanuelle Haïm and Le Concert d'Astrée, Roger Norrington and Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Christian Curnyn and Early Opera Company, Paul McCreesh and Gabrieli Consort, Norsk Barokkorkester (Norwegian Chamber Orchestra), Trevor Pinnock and English Concert, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Berliner Philharmoniker, Bardi Orchestra, Academy of Ancient Music and London Mozart Players.
Alexandra Gibson has sung J.S. Bach’s B minor Mass (BWV 232) at Pamplona/Cuenca (Spain); the title role in Dido and Aeneas; Mozart and Felix Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Barbican (London); Gustav Mahler’s 2nd Symphony; Diana in Carissimi’s La Calisto ( London); Polinesso in G.F. Handel’s Ariodante (Early Opera Company); Cephise in Rameau’s Pygmalion.
Recent appearances have included: George Frideric Handel’s Joshua for The London Handel Festival, Mozart’s Requiem - Concertgebouw (Amsterdam) with Harry Christophers and the Radio Kamer Filharmonie, J.S. Bach’s St Matthew Passion (BWV 244), Bridgewater Hall, Mozart’s Requiem at the Auditorio Nacional de Música (Madrid), G.F. Handel’s Theodora (Irene), Barber Institute. Peter Maxwell Davies’ Missa Super l’homme arme, BBC Radio 3.
Alexandra Gibson also enjoys her work with contemporary composers and was recently involved in the staged Premier of Gavin Bryar’s new commission, The Paper Nautilus (Theatre Cryptic/Paragon Ensemble) in Scotland and at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. She has also toured and been sole vocalist with the Birmingham Royal Ballet in their production of ‘Still life at the Penguin Café’. |
