Monica Garcia-Albea (Soprano)

Born: Boston, Massachusetts, USA

The American soprano, Monica Garcia-Albea, gained in 1996 a fellowship at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. There she completed her Bachelor and Master of Vocal Performance degree. At the Bay Area Opera Theatre Institute San Francisco she received an additional fellowship. She sang in master-classes with Dalton Baldwin, Mary Husemann and Christine Schäfer. She won several Awards at competitions, such as the first Prize at the Florence Boughton Competition in New Jersey and the first prize at the NATS Competition in Boston.

Monica Garcia-Albea has performed as a soloist at concerts in USA, Mexico and Spain. Particularly noteworthy is the premiere performance and recording of the cycle and Spanish Songs for soprano and orchestra written for her by Lior Navok at the Jordan Hall in Boston in April 1998 with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project under the conductor Gil Rose. Since 2003 she lives in Berlin, Germany. Here she founded the Singing - Piano Duo named “dos” and sang at numerous concerts in Germany and Europe. Nowadays she is a member of the Extra - Choir of the German Opera House and since 2007 as a soloist at the Berlin Residence Concerts. In 2008 she sang Pamina in Die Zauberflöte in the U-Bahn
