Michael Erxleben (Violin, Conductor)

Born: 1960 - Dresden, Germany

The German violinist and conductor, Michael Erxleben, received his first violin lessons at age 5 with Annemarie Dietze. He studied at St. Petersburg with Michail Waiman and with Werner Scholz at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin. He received the First Prize at the music competetions Louis Spohr, Johann Sebastian Bach and Chamber Music of Florence.

Michael Erxleben has performed with renowned orchestras including the Berliner Philharmoniker, Münchner Philharmoniker and Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, working with conductors such as Sergiu Celibidache, Kurt Sanderling, Riccardo Chailly and others. He has performed in Europe, Japan, China and the USA. He has recorded the violin concertos of Dmitri Shostakovich, Arnold Schoenberg, Igor Stravinsky, Hartmann and Martin.

Michael Erxleben is the first concertmaster of the Konzerthausorchester Berlin and holds a chair at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin.
