Alberto ter Doest (Tenor)

Born: July 8, ____ - Almelo, the Netherlandfs

The Dutch tenor, Alberto ter Doest, studied school music and solo voice at the Twents Conservatorium with Anne Haenen (Class of 1987). Following his music education studies he went on to do a performing musician degree at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam with Cora Canne Meijer.He then studied for several years with Margreet Honig and with Marie Hammond in London.

Alberto ter Doest has made frequent appearances in various oratorios such as the J.S. Bach's Passions and cantatas, but also in Lieder/song programmes, including Songs of the Chinese by Benjamin Britten and Schubert’s Die Schöne Mullerin with guitarist Saskia Spinder. In the past year he has sung with, among others, La Sfera Armoniosa conducted by Mike Fentross in The Fairy Queen, with the Combattimento Consort Amsterdamconducted by Jan Willem de Vriend in J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248), and in collaboration with the Kölner Akademie he made a CD of works by Francesco Durante. As well as his work in the classical genre, he has also been active in musicals, and has sung many roles in works including Les Misérables, Cats, Phantom of the Opera, and Passion in cities including Vienna, Amsterdam and London. In addition he has sung at countless events throughout Europe.

Alberto ter Doest has sung with the Nederlands Kamerkoor for more than 20 years, and is now a core member. He has been on many tours with them and has sung innumerable concert series at venues all over the Netherlands.

As a singing teacher Alberto ter Doest has since 1986 held the post of Principal Teacher of Voice at the Rotterdam Conservatory (Codarts), where since 2002 he has also been Artistic Manager of Music Theatre. As a Master Teacher he does guest teaching at the Performers School for Drama and Dance in London, the Shanghai Theatre Academy, the Sweelinck Conservatorium and the Musik Hochschule Osnabrück. As a Certified Course Instructor he has for many years now given courses and training all over the world in Estill Voice Training, Belting, Opera, Choral Singing, Vocal Didactics and Rock Effects. Thanks to his expertise in the working of the voice, he speaks at large symposia such as PAS, PEVOC, La Voce Artistica, where he also gives lectures and workshops, based on scientific research into the working of the voice and the direct relationship this has to vocal didactics and pedagogics. At the moment he is writing a book about the technical training of the voice in various vocal styles. He currently lives in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
