Alin Deleanu (Counter-tenor)

Born: 1984 - Romania

The Romanian counter-tenor, Alin Deleanu, participated for two years in the Opera Choir of the Romanian National Opera in Jassy. He then made his debut at the age of 20 years in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore as Belcore and in Georges Bizet's Carmen as Dancairo. After a musical Erasmus stay in Salamanca, Spain, he began studying voice at the Hanns Eisler Hochschule für Musik in Berlin in 2005, graduating with honors in February 2012. He made his German debut in 2009 at the Staatstheater Braunschweig in the title role of the contemporary children's opera WestZeitStory by Juliane Klein.

In 2010, Alin Deleanu decided on the recommendation of Jochen Kowalski for the change of his voice to counter-tenor. Since then he has made his debut at the Landestheater Neustrelitz, Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspielen, Uckermärkischen Musikwochen, Festival for Early Music in Cambridge, Händel-Haus in Halle, Berliner Konzerthaus, Telemann-Festtagen in Magdeburg, Alten Oper in Frankfurt/Main, Berliner Philharmonie, Frankfurter Dom and Oper Frankfurt/Main.

Since the 2011-2012 season, Alin Deleanu is a member of the Young Ensemble at the Staatstheater Mainz, where he has worked with GMD Hermann Bäumer and directors like Tatjana Gürbaca and Sandra Leupold. In August 2013, he won the 1st prize at the Meistersingerwettbewerb in Neustadt. In addition, he is a winner of the Wettbewerbs der Kammeroper Rheinsberg 2014. In April 2014, he successfully debuted at the Schwetzinger SWR-Festspielen in the premiere of the opera Der Reigen by Bernhard Lang, directed by Georges Delnon.

Alin Deleanu's impulses include singing lessons at the Hochschule für Musik Mainz with Professor Claudia Eder (concert exam), regular appearances with Baroque orchestras such as the Lautten Compagney Berlin and the Neumeyer Consort, as well as master-classes / performances with Andreas Scholl, Barbara Schlick, Ralf Otto, Wolfgang Katschner, Michael Hofstetter, Felix Koch and Konrad Junghänel.

At the Staatstheater Mainz Alin Delenau took over the role of l'Archevêque in Dusapin's Perèla (March 2016), worked under the musical direction of Christian Maggio in the Hörtheater Ein Mops kam in die Küche, was Page in Verdi's Rigoletto (January-April 2016), Zofe in Zemlinsky's Der Zwerg (September 2015-January 2016), Il Sole / Alfonso Re in Cavalli's Veremonda (June-July 2016). In the last season he could be seen as a counter-tenor in Carl Orff's Carmina Burana (November 2015-May 2016). In the season 2017-2018 season he can be seen as David in Saul (September 2017-January 2018), Albin / Zaza in La Cage aux Folles (October 2017-June 2018), Ari in Comedian Harmonists, Oberon in Benjamin Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream (October-November 2017)
