Dresdner Barockorchester (Baroque Orchestra)
Born: 1991 - Dresden, Germany
One of the unusual features of the Dresdner Barockorchester (= DBO), which was founded in 1991, is the fact that its members include specialists in early music, and also orchestral players from the Dresden Staatskapelle and Dresden Philharmonie. Thus their collaboration to form a baroque ensemble, with a specific clarity of sound and articulation, makes possible a many-coloured, eloquent music-making as different areas of experience are brought together. All the musicians are united in their desire to follow the splendid example set by the Dresden Court Kapelle of Augustus the Strong. The heritage of his era is the body of representative compositions by musical directors and instrumentalists of the Court Kapelle such as Hasse, Heinichen, Zelenka, Quantz and Pisendel. This repertoire dates from the end of the 17th century until the time of Mozart. The DBO works closely with the prize-winning Dresdner Kammerchor and with Hans-Christoph Rademann.
