Michal Czerniawski (Counter-tenor)

Born: Poland

The Polish counter-tenor, Michal Czerniawski, was studying singing at the Academy of Music in Gdansk and Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. He began to develop his music abilities in early childhood as a member of Szczecin Boys’ Choir Slowiki.

Michal Czerniawski worked extensively with William Christie (Jardin des Voix world tour), Masaaki Suzuki, Mark Padmore (St John Passion (BWV 245), St Matthew Passion (BWV 244) by J.S. Bach) and regulary perform both concerts (e.g. George Frideric Handel's oratorios like Messiah and Solomon with Solomon's Knot Baroque Colective (Director: Jonathan Sells), Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Salve Regina at London Handel Festival, Alessandro Scarlattii's Il primo Omicidio at Wratislavia Cantans) and operatic repertoire (e.g. The Fairy Queen with English Touring Opera, Teatr Wielki w Poznaniu, Acis & Galatea and L'opera seria with New European Opera, J. Peri's Euridice with BYO, Orlando Generoso by A. Steffani at Barber Institute of Fine Arts in Birmingham). He also have theatrical experience (The Duchess of Malfi at Royal & Derngate in Northampton).

In autumn 2013 Michal Czerniawski came come back to English Touring Opera to sing principal roles in Monteverdi's Coronation of Poppea and Jason by Cavalli as well as cover the role of Ottone in G.F. Handel's Agrippina. He also took part in performances of J.S. Bach's Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) in UK and Norway.
