Birgit Cörgner (Contralto)

Born: Germany

The German contralto, Birgit Görgner, first took the State Examination in Music at the Secondary levels I and II and in pedagogical sciences at the Nordwestdeutsche Musikakademie in Detmold, also receiving the diploma in the flute department there. While she was completing her German Studies diploma at the University of Paderborn, she discovered her talent for singing and in 1991 began voice lessons with Heiner Eckels in Detmold; there she obtained both the Teacher's Certificate in 1997 and the Artist's Diploma. She rounded out her college study with participation in master-classes (with Julia Hamari, Kurt Widmer and Helmut Kretschmar among others). During her study Birgit Görgner was supported by a scholarschip from the Richard-Wagner-Verband.

Since then Birgit Görgner has concertized regularly in other European countries and participated in many CD projects. Her artistic activity mainly emphasizes the realm of oratorio and lied. In addition, various guest engagements have given her the opportunity for stage appearances such as in the City Theater of Bielefeld and the State Theater in Detmold.
