Ulrike Clausen (Contralto)

Born: Munich, Germany

The German contralto, Ulrike Clausen, studied singing at the Richard-Strauss-Konservatorium with Helmut Banzhaf. In 1994 she had stipend of the Richard-Wagner-Verbandes Munich, and sang many opera roles such as Octavian in the Rosenkavalier and Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte. She also sang Brangäne in Tristan and Isolde.

Ulrike Clausen’s special preference belongs to the Lieder singing, which she studied with Kurt Widmer. She gave Lieder recitals in places as Münchner Gasteig and Opernhaus Kiel with companions such as Angelika Wissmüller and James Alexander. She was involved in various premieres in the church music and participated on the residents of Münchner Biennale in the context of the workshop of the composer Henze.

In the concert and oratorio Ulrike Clausen has already sung many parts with conductors such as Helmut Rilling, Frieder Bernius and Diego Fasolis. At present she works as concert soloist in her homeland and abroad, gives Lieder recitals and church concerts and is busy with RSI in Lugano.

In her first CD she recorded J.S. Bach’s Magnificat (BWV 243).
