Joachim Buhrmann (Tenor)

Born: Schönow, Brandenburg, Germany

The German tenor, Joachim Buhrmann, initially studied church music, followed by singing with Melinda Paulsen. While he was still a student he sang operatic roles and solo parts in oratorios in productions at his conservatory. At the Schauspiel Frankfurt he sang a specially composed part in a staging of Goethe's Faust. He subsequently took part in many master-classes under such teachers as Cornelius Reid, Ruth Ziesak, and Rudolf Piernay.

Alongside his busy schedule with several radio choirs (Bavarian, North German, and West German radios), Joachim Buhrmann also devotes himself to contemporary music. For example, he has been heard as a soloist with the Bamberger Symphoniker under Jonathan Nott at the Edinburgh Festival, has taken part in a large-scale composer portrait of Helmut Lachenmann with Hans Zender and Klangforum Wien, and made his debut at the Berlin Staatsoper in Arnold Schoenberg's Moses und Aron under Daniel Barenboim.

Since taking on a permanent engagement with the RIAS-Kammerchor in 2005, Joachim Buhrmann has continued to appear as a soloist, as was the case recently in Idomeneo under René Jacobs. Among the other conductors with whom he has worked are Michael Gielen, Marcello Viotti, James Levine, Richard Hickox, and Lorin Maazel. Hae currebtly lives in Schönow, Brandenburg, Germany.
